The island takes its name from possibly one of the Greatest Commanders in Russian and World History, Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov Suwarrow is also where Tom Neale spent a total of 16 years – in three sessions – living alone on the island of Anchorage. In 1966, he published "An Island to Oneself: Six Years on a Desert Island"
