Pukapuka is where author Robert Dean Frisbie lived. In 1929, he published "The Book of Puka-Puka: A Lone Traveller in the South Pacific"
The island takes its name from possibly one of the Greatest Commanders in Russian and World History, Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov Suwarrow is also where Tom Neale spent a total of 16 years – in three sessions – living alone on the island of Anchorage. In 1966, he published "An Island to Oneself: Six Years on a Desert Island"
